It is officially my last semester of high school and the closer that graduation date comes the more excited I become, but at the same time the more nervous I get. The date has come too fast for me to comprehend because right after graduation life is right there waiting for you to walk through the door. I am going to be on my lonesome fighting against the world and working for everything that I own by myself. It is going to be hard knowing that I won’t have as much support as I did at home because I wouldn’t have my parents there.
The preparations I have taken for post graduation is applying and accepted to colleges. Also, I have applied for financial aid and taken my Placement test in the beginning of February. I also received my Exit interview date on March 17th. The colleges that I have got accepted to at this moment is Bakersfield and Monterey Bay. I am still waiting on my top 2 Choices, which are Sacramento and Cal Poly Pomona. My plan is to attend Sac state in the Fall and major in Mathematics. Later becoming a Teacher under LUSD, and a become apart of the LHS coaching staff. First thing first is to finish all of my classes. and present my Exit Interview to my panelist and pass it, with a 3.5 or higher. Than I have to be admitted into my top Universities, and obtain some financial aid. Also, I have to apply and get accepted to some scholarships. By May I have to decide on where I want to go for college and apply for admission. Once I am done with those things I believe High school is over for me. Then on to bigger harder things. It’s going to be tough but I feel like I have the motivation and the support to be able to get through the tough times for the next couple of months. What I am most looking forward to is the walking down that line with my class. Nothing will feel more real than walking the line. It is a milestone that will accomplished for me, and another milestone will be heading to college and walking that line. But other than walking I am also looking forward to Grad Nite. My Parents always tell me stories about theirs and they are 30+ years out of high school. I guess it’s a night that you’ll remember for a lifetime… even high school. I am also looking forward to that last week of school, it sounds stressful but it sounds fun because it is a step closer to graduation. I am most grateful to be able to experience High school the way I did. Getting involved in a lot of sports, a couple of clubs and activities. Being able to have grown through the school has taught me a lot especially what I was involved in. Mostly Football and Basketball has taught me a lot about life and what is ahead of me and what I need to do to be able to be successful.

My last and final winter break as a high school student was pretty great wish it was longer but at the same time kind of want to get things over with. One experience that I will remember this winter break is going to Santa Maria with my basketball team. We got 4th place, losing in a heartbreaking 3rd place game against Morro Bay High by one point (49-48). Other than that it was such a great experience even though it was only four night three day getaway it was worth it. During and coming back from winter break I have realized that we are a step closer to graduation, putting more pressure on me to finish all my classes by January 22. It will be challenging but at the same time should be simple, if that makes sense.. I think what hit me the most, rather than getting my classes done, is graduation, life, and college just being around the corner. Excited but frightening at the same time, but to this point I feel like my Teachers, Mentors, Counselors, Friends, Family, and especially my coaches have prepared me on what on the other side and all the challenges that come along with it. My steps to walk the line for high school and go to a college is taking every little thing that I do more serious. Such things as in my work, projects, paying attention in class being more engaged. Not that I haven’t been doing that but take it a step further because I have a very big jump to get over just in a few months. Also, another step I need to accomplish is getting my applications accepted by the colleges I applied to. Such colleges as in Cal Poly, CSU Sacramento, and CSU Monterey Bay. One relief is getting accepted to my back up college which is CSU Bakersfield. I am just waiting on the other three for an answer. It is nerve racking but I know there is something in store for me and waiting for me but up to me to go find it and get it. One problem I also need to solve is finding a part time job to get me through the struggles as I move up to what I want to be. Other than finding a job and all the everything that comes with that, my first priority is getting my classes done to be able to graduate on time maybe earlier, and getting accepted to some colleges I have applied for.
I am doing well in all my classes. My pacing for all seven classes is six out of seven. The only class I am just slightly behind in is econ. My plan is to be on pace in all seven classes by the end of thanksgiving break. The end of the semester is coming fast. Before it is over, I need to accomplish my goal of being on pace on all seven of my classes and finish applying to colleges. I have already submitted four college applications to CSU Bakersfield, CSU Sacramento, CSU Monterey Bay, and Cal Poly Pomona. I am still planning on applying to more colleges, and need to get on it. Also, I need to finish my second personal statement for college applications.
My Senior project is also one that is coming along and need to update clubs and activities and my journals with this journal I am writing. One problem I am having with updating my journals is how to change the font on my senior project. I can’t seem to figure it out. Other difficulties I am having this semester is trying to manage my time with school and my extra curricular activities, but I have been doing it all my life so I have to get back in the rhythm. I am very confident I can overcome my difficulties. The steps I am taking to prepare myself for post graduate life is applying for college. Like I said before, I have already applied to four CSU’s and planning on applying to a couple UC’s. I have also applied to EOP’s for those for colleges I applied for. I am also planning on applying to some colleges for furthering my football career. Only problem with those colleges that want me to go play for them is that they are out of state. It doesn’t hurt to spread my wings a little to explore and experience somewhere different than California. For these major steps I am taking I feel I am extremely supported by not only my family but also; my friends, my teachers, and my coaches. I feel blessed to the fact that I have an amazing family and friends to support me to the major steps I am taking on furthering my Life to the things I want. I know once I take the next big step in my life I will have people there supporting me every step of the way. So far my senior year has been amazing. Applying for colleges and finishing up my classes for the semester is a great and exciting feeling. It is also a scary feeling because graduation is around the corner. Another enjoyment about senior year is my classes they are not to hard yet they are not laid back. The only problem I see in my senior year is the ending of what I love doing which is Football. Also, the ending of all the other sports I play. That will be the only down fall of my senior year. Coming into senior year is an awesome yet scary feeling. The scary part is that IT'S SENIOR YEAR!! By that I mean it’s time to start making decisions about college, start sending in applications, getting my SAT score up, just start cramming everything for college and making plans for my future. The awesome feeling is getting all my three recommended classes done. and have the rest of my classes as electives. Also the awesome part is having fun my senior year by getting even more involved and finishing the year strong. So overall my senior year is frightening yet incredible.
Speaking of my classes and getting good grades looking back coming from Junior year my grades are looking on pace and ready to walk the line. Like I said before having only three recommended classes that I need is a good feeling going into senior year. Looking forward into my carrier I’m going to have to take a class at on of our local Junior Colleges and take a class I need for my College recommendations. Most of my senior year is going to be all electives unless next semester I would get a modified schedule, but that will only happen if I keep my grades up. My goal for Senior year is to graduate with a minimum of a 3.5 and to get accepted into a 4 year college. In order to do that I will have to finish all my classes with a level 4. It is going to take a lot of work and time but it is doable if you put your mind to it and work hard. I can't procrastinate or slack off if any of my classes because if so i will not reach my goal of graduating or even getting my GPA where I want to. Next year I would be most likely attending a 4 year university preferably the University of Oregon. My Career that i have been thinking or considering about is becoming a math teacher or an administrator. Maybe something in the computer science area. I think I am ready but at the same time I am not because if I do leave I am out on my own making my own decisions and having to pay bills, and use my money properly. I am ready to leave because I am curious and ready to further my education rather than the ordinary high school diploma. |
